Abstract:

Miscellaneous collection including portraits of literary and political figures (Mary Austin, Jack London, Edwin Markham, Charles Warren Stoddard, George Sterling, J.D. Phelan, et al.); prince and princess Lazarovich; and Charles Herrold (an "inventor of a successful wireless telephone"), among others. Also included are views of homemade ergograph, "grasping machine," early phonograph attached to a wireless telephone, Mexican shrunken head, missions, and Bland's home in San Jose, California. In addition, views of California missions and homes of R.L. Stevenson (in Oakland and in Monterey, Calif.) and of Luther Burbank (in Santa Rosa, Calif.) are present.
